Gout
Du Miel If
you're in the mood for European dining in hip modern atmosphere,
then the buzz around Cheongdamdong is the new restaurant called
`Gout du Miel`. In French, Gout du Miel means `Taste of Honey`
and downstairs, the mirrored walls have a repeating pattern
of octagonal shapes that make you feel just like a queen bee
inside a luxurious beehive. The dramatic halogen lighting and
red velvet chairs give the place a modern yet regal feel. Upstairs
there is a private room, and a more classic space with white
chairs and walls with European molding. Though the restaurant
is relatively small, the floor to ceiling windows make this
restaurant a good place to see and be seen. Adding to the atmosphere
is the cool background music which was personally remixed by
one of the young owners, a music aficionado.
The superb menu at Gout du Miel was created by an established
chef who had previously worked at the fine restaurants of the
Shilla hotel and the Westin Chosun hotel. Start with a warm
soup like French onion, lobster cream or minestrone. The light
and crispy Caesar salad is refreshing and the duck breast salad
with spinach and palm is a bit heartier. The chef recommends
the melt-in-your mouth pan-fried goose liver garnished with
mushroom, apple and port wine sauce, the meaty barbequed pork
ribs, or the tender filet mignon delicately flavored with pepper
sauce. There are also fresh fish and light pasta choices.
Patrons usually indulge themselves with champagne, but there
are also 250 wines to choose from and the wine is cleverly displayed
on backlit beehive-shaped shelves. For an elegant dining experience
in a trendy setting, head over to Gout du Miel just off the
