Les Chiots

If you
happen to be walking by Dosan Park in Apkujong, and you’re
looking for a cute, but unpretentious terrace to loiter in,
then you might want to give Les Chiots a try.
‘Les
Chiots’ means ‘the puppies’ in French. The
young owner, an ex-pro hockey player, has a passion for dogs.
You can recognize the place because his enormous, but lovably
cute dog, sits outside the restaurant on most days.
The terrace at Les Chiots feels like an upscale pojangmacha
(For those who don’t know, a pojangmacha is one of those
tented street food restaurants) It feels very homey. They
have an outdoor grill where they barbeque meats and serve
Guiness beer on draft. The interior, which is very different,
has velvet chairs, heavy drapes and big black and gold paintings.
The whole effect is pseudo-European. There are private rooms
available.
The menu, which is `European`, has an emphasis on Italian
and French-inspired dishes. They have different types of spaghetti,
and risotto for 18,000 won and up. They also have cuts of
veal with foie gras. There are also seafood choices like Coquille
St. Jacques. Parts of the menu are oddly translated in French,
Italian, and Japanese, but not in English. The chef is Japanese,
but his experience is in European cuisine.
The service can be pretty slow if they are busy. It really
doesn't matter if your purpose is to loiter anyway. The food
is decent, but it may be better to order a beer and a grilled
meat platter instead of something too fancy. You can drink
on the terrace till 4 in the morning when the place closes
down. (630-24 Sinsa Dong, Kangnam) 517- 0746 $$$
