GROOVE BAR
Groove Bar is a small joint in the heart of Apkujong that lives up to it’s name. At Groove Bar they play funky groovy music that makes you want to dance in your chair (which is good because the place is too small to have a dance floor). It’s a perfect downtempo lounge bar to grab a drink before heading out for a night out clubbing. Or, it’s a good place to get a glass of wine with your girlfriend if you’ve been out shopping all day on Rodeo street and you need a happy hour drink. The crowd is distinctly Apku. There seemed to be a lot of models, party, and fashion related people there (mostly Koreans). Even though it’s a lounge bar, the place is not static. It’s easy to circulate from table to table to socialize, despite the fact that it’s a sit-down bar.
Basically the bar is one room on the fourth floor of a random building. The décor is minimal, pleasant and modern with some ‘design’ accents. There are shiny black floors, a disco ball and an outdoor wooden deck with covered by an awning. Black leather bars stools line the rectangular bar and there are tables ajacent to that. There are about 6-8 tables in the whole place. If 50 people were there, it would be packed. The small terrace overlooks another building which is under construction. You can still see the sky and part of the street, so it’s pleasant to sit out there nonetheless. The drinks are on the expensive side, yet it’s not that expensive by Apkujong standards. A vodka cranberry will run you 8000 won.
If you’re walking along the road that goes from Cine City to Rock and Roll, Make a left on the first alley. And look up. You will see the sign and the terrace.
