Istanbul
A taste of the Turkish
written by Heath Buck

Situated a little down the road and opposite Noksapyeong Exit 2 Istanbul is a small unassuming kebab house called Istanbul . There’s a couple of tables outside for while the weather is good, and then a few more tables inside for when the winter sinks in.

It’s nice to walk past the slow cooking meat as you enter the restaurant, and the décor is both clean and unpretentious.

Being a Turkish themed restaurant, the main draw is the Kebabs and with a ‘Fries, Soda, and Kebab’ set priced at only W5,000 it makes for a good value quick bite on the run. The food is cheap, but it is also tasty with a fresh pita packed with sauce covered meat (for the equivalent money your only other alternatives would be somewhere like MacDonalds).

The food service is quick, and within five minutes I had my meal in front of me. This is clearly a popular local eaterie as whilst I ate my meal I saw numerous customers step in to collect a decent takeaway for the night’s evening dinner. The place has a friendly backpacker charm to it. What’s more, if conversation is flowing, beer is on draft and the atmosphere is comfortable to stay for a few drinks more. All in all, a thoroughly good value meal with a reminiscent touch of Istanbul thrown in, I’m sure I’ll be back next time I’m in the area.

Average Meal Price: W5,000

Nearest Subway Station: Noksapyeong Station

How to find it: From Noksapyeong Station take Exit 2 and walk down the hill. Until there is an underpass. Cross over and you will be in front of Istanbul
