MARRAKECH NIGHTS
The former chef of the Moroccan ambassador recently opened up Marrakech Nights, a colorful Moroccan restaurant right off the main street of Itaewon. This tiny restaurant has a raw charm about it. The outside of it looks vaguely Moroccan with it’s arched windows painted in blue. Inside there are beamed ceilings and sunny orange walls. A large blue carpet which was offered to the chef by the Moroccan ambassador hangs proudly on the main wall and lively Arabic music plays in the background. There are also the requisite hookah pipes which you can smoke if you wish.
The food at Marrakech is home-cooked and full of exotic flavor. You can start off by dipping some fresh-out-of-the-oven pita bread into some hummus (Chick pea, olive oil, tahini and garlic), babaganoush (eggplant, tahini, garlic), Zaluk (eggplant, tomato onion and garlic) or teruka (tomato, green pepper garlic and parsley). These delicious dips are between 4000- 5000 won. You can also choose a green salad or a chef’s salad for starters. Main courses include lemon chicken, lamb kebabs, meatballs and a daily fish choice. Main courses are around 12,000 won. If you want something fast and easy then you can simply choose to have a chicken, egg or falafel sandwich. The meats have a delicious grilled flavor and the spices are very particular to Moroccan cuisine. The chef speaks fluent French, as many Moroccans do, and at the end of it all, you can even have a French crepe for dessert! There are a lot of reasons why Marrakech nights is a good restaurant. Unlike some of the other Arabic restaurants, wine is available (possibly due to the French influence). The location is also super convenient, and the price is really affordable. Plus you get family run service and fantastic food.
Marrakech nights is 10 meters up the little hill next to the Pizza hut in Itaewon. The place is small so call ahead for reservations if you have a big group. 57-16 Iteawon Dong
