DIN TAI FUNG
Din Tai Fung is a dim sum restaurant chain that came from Taiwan. It became so popular, they opened several restaurants around Asia. In Singapore, people line up to get a taste of Din Tai Fung's famous dumplings. Here in Seoul, you can still get the same delicious dishes, and the decor of the restaurant is even nicer than any of it's other counterparts. There are tables and booths in a large rectangular room which faces the open kitchen. There are Chinese accents like red screens on brick wall, silk lampshades and old black and white photos. Din Tai Fung also has a modern feel with it's dark floors, wood partitions and decorative words etched in steel.
The thing to try at Din Tai Fung is the dumplings. You can get pork dumplings, pork and crab dumplings, kimchee and pork dumplings, shrimp and pork shaomai, and steamed pork buns. Tasty! There are also a variety of soups: Chicken soup, beef soup, sour and spicy soup, and shrimp and pork wanton soup. If you're in the mood for noodles you can have noodle soup with beef, shrimp, soy sauce or sesame sauce. There are also several types of fried rice. To finish off the meal, you can order sweet buns and moon cakes for dessert. Din Tai Fung is a great place to stop for lunch if you've been shopping in Myong Dong or Namdaemun. It's also conveniently located near the offices in the City Hall area. (It's at the end of Myong Dong which is near the old post office which is now a construction site. Look for a large wood-backed sign with red letters)
